Two suspected drug peddlers have been killed in alleged gunfights in Mymensingh and Jessore.
Mymensingh police said 38-year-old Jalal Uddin, accused in six drugs-related cases, died during a skirmish in Bhaluka Upazila’s Habirbari area around 2:15am on Wednesday, the district Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge Ashiqur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.
He said a team of DB and police raided the area to arrest a gang of drug dealers.
Two police constables were also injured, Ashiqur said, adding that 200 pieces of yaba pills were seized.
In a separate incident, police said they recovered the body of a man from Jessore’s Chougachha area.
Local police station’s in-charge Khandker Shamimuddin claimed the man, later identified as 45-year-old Shahid Mallik from Benapole, was a drug dealer and was killed in a gunfight between two gangs around 2:30am.
He said they also recovered a pistol, bullets, and three kilograms of cannabis from the spot.
Shahid’s family said he was a farmer but he used to be a drug dealer. He had been missing since Tuesday after leaving for Sharsha.
Benapole port police OC Opurbo Hasan said Shahid was accused in 14 cases.
