19 Bangladeshis, including women and children, held at Dharmapur border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 19 people, including women and children, at the India-Bangladesh border in Dharmapur—under Kurigram’s Fulbari upazila.

The trespassers were caught by BGB at around 9:30pm Wednesday while trying to enter Bangladesh, confirmed BGB 15 battalion Kashipur camp Company Commander Subedar Shahid.

He also said the group had been working illegally at a brick kiln in India’s Haryana for a long time, with the help of a human trafficker, and were caught while on the way back—with help from another trafficker. They were later handed over to Fulbari police station.

The 19 detained ranged in age from five to 47 years old.

Subedar Shahid also said: “Cases of unlawful entry have been filed against the detained with local police.”

Fulbari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandakar Fuad Ruhani said: “The detained were taken to Kurigram court, for trial, on Thursday morning.”
