The DNA report on suspected killers of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, who was killed in Comilla more than two years ago, will be revealed next week, police said.
Jalal Uddin Ahmed, investigation officer on the case, said police re-interrogated many suspects in the case.
Tonu, a second-year history student at Comilla Victoria College and member of Victoria College Theatre, was found dead in the Mainamati Cantonment area on March 20, 2016.
Her murder sparked a huge public outcry.
Although 27 months have passed since the murder, the investigation into the gruesome killing continues to languish without any progress.
Family members and locals expressed their anger and frustration as police have failed to name any suspects. Doctors at the forensic department of Comilla Medical College Hospital conducted two autopsies on her body but their reports failed to mention a clear cause of death.
In April 2016, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was handed the case. The agency revealed that bodily fluids (semen) of three individuals had been found on Tonu’s clothes.
CID officials last interrogated Tonu’s father Yaar Hossain, mother Anwara Begum, cousin Laizu and brother Mizan at its Dhaka office on November 22, 2017.
