Man held for death threat against Chittagong publisher

Police have arrested a man for allegedly issuing death threats against the proprietor of Balaka Prakashan in Chittagong.

The arrested man was identified as Titu Shil Joydeb, 35.

A team of Kotwali police arrested Titu from the port city’s Bakalia area around 1:00am on Wednesday.

Md Mohsin, officer-in-charge of the Kotwali police station, who confirmed the matter, said Titu called Jamal Uddin on Monday night— threateninged to kill him and blow up his office.

The publisher, also the secretary of Chattogram Srijanshil Parakashak Samity and president of the Chittagong chapter of Bangladesh Gyan O Srijanshil Parakashak Samity, lodged a general diary (GD) with Kotwali police station on Tuesday.

“We arrested the intimidator and seized the phone used for issuing the death threat,” OC Mohsin said. 

During preliminary interrogation, Titu confessed that he had threatened Jamal.

“We are quizzing him for further information,” the OC added.
