A suspected drug trader has been killed in a “gunfight” with Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Raipur Railway station area in Sirajganj district.
Shahin Reza, 35, son of Danesh Sheikh, was killed in the incident early Monday.
So far, about 141 people, mostly alleged drug dealers, have been killed and scores of others arrested since the anti-narcotics drive began across Bangladesh in early May.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Yusuf Ali said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted the drive in the area around 2:15am.
“The drug traders opened fire at the team when they reached the spot.”
In retaliation, the detectives fired back, leaving Shahin injured. He was declared dead when taken to a local hospital.
Three policemen were also injured in the incident.
DB police recovered a foreign pistol and some yaba pills from the spot.
