AL leader held for assaulting ASI at Mymensingh police station

An Awami League leader was arrested on charges of physically assaulting an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at a police station in Mymensingh, after he refused to release three suspects from custody.

Arrested ruling party leader, Md Rokunuzzaman Pallab, is the general secretary of the Gauripur Union unit Awami League.

Gauripur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Delwar Hossain told the correspondent: “ASI Hasanuzzaman Hasan detained three suspects with marijuana, during an anti-drug raid in the city on Friday night.”

Awami League leader Pallab visited the police station, on Saturday around 11am, to lobby for the release of the suspects.

“Pallab got into a heated argument with ASI Hasan and then assaulted him after he refused to release the three suspects from custody. Policemen present at the station brought the situation under control and detained Pallab for assaulting an officer of the law,” said the OC.

The police are planning to file a case against Pallab over the incident.
