Bodies of 4 minors recovered from pond in Chandpur

Floating bodies of four minor boys have been recovered from a pond in Randhunimura village of Hajiganj municipality in Chandpur.

The bodies were recovered on Tuesday morning.

The deceased are Rahul, 11, Shamim, 10, Raihan, 10, and Liyon, 9.

The boys went missing one day before their bodies were found in the pond. The locals recovered the bodies and called the police. The police went to the spot shortly afterwards and conducted a primary investigation.

Locals said the boys went into the pond for a swim as usual around 12pm on Monday. They were not seen after that. Their families searched frantically for them during the night.

Md Shuku Mia, Hajiganj municipality panel 2 mayor and ward 11 councilor, said: “Their bodies were found on Tuesday morning. There are no complaints from the parents of the children or the locals. We do not know what happened after they went into the water.

“We are preparing for their burial.”

Locals said they might have died from snake bite.

Raihan’s mother Rabeya Begum said: “We found their clothes near the pond in the evening when we began searching for them.”

Rahul’s mother and Liyon’s mother both said that all four boys knew how to swim.

Hajiganj police station Officer-in-Charge Md Jabedul Islam confirmed the incident to the Dhaka Tribune.
