The Election Commission has started investigating various allegations of irregularities raised during the Khulna City Corporation polls in mid-May.
A three-member committee started speaking to concerned officials of the three polling centres where voting was suspended on May 15.
EC Secretariat’s Joint Secretary Khandkar Mizanur Rahman, who heads the committee, said they would file a report to the Election Commission after investigation.
Members of the committee are trying to find out what had happened at the three centres during the voting.
Khulna city election’s Returning Officer Md Yunus Ali said voting will take place at the three centres on May 30. The voters have already been notified as per the Election Commission’s instructions.
The presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, polling officers, and agents of the candidates at those centres have been changed.
Yunus had said the results of the councillor election of general ward 31, and reserved wards 9 and 10, could not be announced due to the suspended voting.
Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) on Tuesday said the Khulna City Corporation election was marred by vote rigging, irregularities, and harassment of the opposition. “The entire election process was not transparent, free of rigging, or credible,” it said.
