MJF calls for local government to ensure justice for Tripura girls

Human rights watchdog Manusher Jonno Foundaton (MFJ) has called for the local government to ensure justice for two teenage girls of the Tripura ethnic community who were allegedly gang raped and killed in Jangal Mahadevpur village in Sitakunda upazila on Friday, May 18.

The victims were Sukhlati Tripura, 15, daughter of Falin Tripura, and Chhobi Rani Tripura, 12, daughter of Sumon Tripura of the village. They were found hanging at Falin Tripura's home.

Falin Tripura claimed that Abul Hossain, the main accused in the case filed with Sitakunda police station over the incident, and two of his associates gang raped and killed the girls before hanging the bodies to make it look like a suicide.

After the case was filed, police arrested Abul, 25, also from the village, after conducting a drive at the Sitakunda Sadar area on Saturday, May 19. The other two other are still at large.

On Tuesday, Executive Director of MJF Shaheen Anam in her statement said delays in capturing the two fugitives may obstruct the progression of the case and hamper efforts to ensure justice for the victims.
