Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) has called a strike on Saturday from 9am to 5pm, protesting physical assault on a doctor in Rajshahi.
A doctor was beaten after a child died in Rajshahi’s Popular Diagnostic Centre on Thursday.
Family members of the deceased beat Dr Sanaullah and in retaliation, associates of the doctor beat them back and locked them inside a room.
BMA Rajshahi branch Secretary General Dr Naushad Ali said: “As Dr Sanaullah was physically assaulted, there will be a strike on Saturday in all the private clinics.
At least a hundred private clinics-diagnostic centres have been closed in the city. Treatments of existing patients are going on but no new patients are allowed being admitted for the time being.
There was a human chain in front of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 12 pm on Saturday. Dr Naushad demanded proper security for doctors from there.
