2 killed, 25 injured as bus turns over on Dhaka-Khulna highway

Two people, including a diploma student, was killed and at least 25 people were injured as a bus carrying them turned over on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in the Sadar upazila of Gopalganj on Sunday.
The deceased are 17-year-old Ashikur Rahman Reza, a second year student of Gopalganj Polytechnic Institute, and Ruku Mia, 62, a retired policeman.
Gopalganj Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Manirul Islam said the bus heading towards the upazila collided head-on with a brick-laden truck and immediately overturned near Gopinathpur area around 9am, causing the casualties.
As the news of their fellow student being killed in the accident spread, students of the polytechnic institute blocked the highway in Gopinathpur.
As of filing this report around 12:45pm, the blockade was still going on, with the OC claiming that they were trying to ease the situation.
Of the injured, 20 have been admitted to Gopalganj General Hospital, while two others with critical injuries have been sent to Khulna for better treatment.
