A 20-kilometre long tailback has formed on the Dhaka-Tangail highway after a billboard, at Tangail's Bhuapur area, fell on the track after heavy winds struck it early Monday.
The tailback is from Bangabandhu bridge area till Gharinda on the highway.
Police said it took over an hour to remove the billboard from the track. During the time, vehicles were moving in a single lane, which caused traffic congestion on the highway. Several portions of the road were also damaged due to sudden heavy rainfall.
Aside from that, the four-lane upgradation work on the highway also hampered vehicular movement.
Officer-in-Charge of Elenga Highway police outpost Tariqul Islam said police are working relentlessly to solve traffic congestion on the highway.
