Fire destroys 200 shanties in Chittagong

A fire, originating from an electric short-circuit, has gutted more than 200 shanties in the port city. The incident took place around 4:45am on Monday at Mia Khan area. Chittagong fire service Assistant Director Kamal Uddin told the Dhaka Tribune that eight firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames after more than two hours of frantic effort. The shanties destroyed in the fire were owned by three individuals. They claimed that properties worth an estimated Tk10 lakh.
