HC verdict in Zubair murder case Jan 23

The High Court on Tuesday fixed January 23 for delivering its verdict on the death references and appeals in the sensational Jahangirnagar University student Zubair Ahmed murder case of 2012. The Hight Court bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam fixed the date after concluding the hearing on the death references and appeals. Earlier, the court started the hearing on January 2. Zubair Ahmed, 23, then an undergraduate student of the English department at Jahangirnagar University, died at United Hospital in Dhaka on January 9, 2012, hours into his abduction and torture on campus by his political opponents on January 8. On February 8, 2015, a Dhaka court sentenced five people to death and six others to life imprisonment for the killing. Later, the accused filed separate appeals with the High Court challenging the lower court verdict.
