Woman, grandson found dead in Narayanganj

Police have recovered bodies of a woman and a child from a tin-shed house in Mizmizi area of Siddhirganj in Narayanganj on Thursday. The bodies were recovered around 10am after neighbours complained of stench coming from inside the house. The dead were identified as Parvin Akhter, 48, and her grandson Mehdi Hassan, 9. Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdus Sattar said they have detained the woman’s son-in-law Ali Nabi Awal for questioning. Nabi was inside the house when the police went for inspection. After primary interrogation, police said the house from where the bodies were recovered is owned by Tofazzal Hossain, an emigrant living in Italy. Nabi worked as the caretaker of the house and lived with his mother-in-law and son in two of the three rooms in the house. The other room is on rent. According to the police, Nabi has two wives and both of them are Saudi emigrants. The woman killed is the mother of his second wife Shilpi, who used to send money to her mother regularly. On January 1, Nabi filed a missing report with police stating that his mother-in-law and son disappeared. OC Abdus Sattar said: “We are primarily suspecting that money related conflicts within the family members was the main reason behind the killing of Shilpi's mother Parvin.” “After inspecting the bodies, it seemed like the mother and the grandson were killed about four to five days ago,” the OC added. The bodies were sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy. This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
