Awami League leaders detained with venison in Bagerhat

Police have detained two Awami League leaders along with 10 kilograms of venison from Swarankhola upazila, Bagerhat.
The arrestees are Md Jafar Talukdar, 48 joint-general secretary of Sauthkhali union unit Awami League, and Shamsul Islam Ripon, president of a ward unit of Awami League in the union.
Swarankhola police station Officer-in-Charge Md Kabirul Islam said a team of police challenged three people as they were transporting the venison to Tafalbari Bazar from Bokultola, a village adjacent to the Sundarbans, on a motorbike in the early hours of Saturday.
The police team seized a sack of venison from their possession, and held the two passengers – Jafar and Ripon. However, the person driving the motorbike, Sogir Bayati, fled on his bike.
A case has been filed against the three people under the Wildlife Conservation and Security Act.
