The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested two major suspects in connection with the quad-rape case in Chittagong.
The arrestees were identified as Mizan Matabbar and Abu Sama.
Later in the evening, Mizan Matabbar was produced before the court of Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate Al Imran Khan, where the perpetrator gave his confessional statement under section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
PBI Inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma informed that Mizan told the court that a total of four persons entered the house of the victims for the purpose of robbery on December 12.
“Of the four persons, two participated in the rape. Mizan, however, claimed that he did not take part in the rape. He also admitted that he received Tk13,00 as his share of the booty,” said the PBI Inspector.
With the latest arrest, a total of five people have been arrested in connection with the rape.

Earlier on Sunday, the case was transferred to the PBI.
“A letter from PBI headquarters arrived on Monday, asking us to investigate the case,” said the PBI inspector.
Around 1am on December 12, four robbers aged around 20-25 broke into a one-storey house in Shah Mirpur village, and raped the four women at gunpoint. The criminals left the house around 3am, looting cash, jewellery and smartphone handsets, according to the women.
The victims filed a case accusing four people under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Karnaphuli police station on December 17, five days after the incident.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Deputy Commissioner Harun-Ur-Rashid Hazari acknowledged the lapse during a press conference in Karnaphuli police station.
