Three members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) have been killed in a raid on a house, they have been using as their hideout, in a remote area of Chapainawabganj, RAB has said.
Mufti Mahmud Khan, RAB’s legal and media wing director, said the dead militants, all members of JMB old faction, used to train new recruits.
“They were planning sabotage in the greater Rajshahi region,” he told reporters on Tuesday after the raid at Char Alatuli, an area close to the Indian border.
A strike team of the elite law enforcement agency cordoned off the abandoned house owned by one Rashikul Islam at the village from 4am, reports UNB.
When the RAB strike team asked the militants to surrender, the latter opened fire and threw grenade to the elite forces which prompted the strike team members of to retaliate back.

Dhaka TribuneAccording to witnesses, several bombs were exploded around 5am. A fire broke out at the house following the bomb explosion, confirms a RAB official.
Names and detailed identities of the dead militants have not been released yet.
RAB has also taken into custody three people – house owner Rashikul’s wife Nazma and her parents Khorshed and Minara – for questioning.
Members of the elite law enforcement agency also recovered seven detonators, two pistols, two magazines and 12 pieces of powder gel explosives.
RAB officials said they planned the raid after receiving information from militants held during raids in Mirpur and Chapainawabganj.
