Female Awami League leader hacked to death in Brahmanbaria

Unidentified assailants hacked a female Awami League leader in Nabinagar upazila, Brahmanbaria to death on Wednesday night. Confirming the murder to the Dhaka Tribune, Nabinagar Awami League unit member Shib Shankar Das said the victim, Swapna Akhter, 46, was the unit's women's affairs secretary. He said Swapna was going home at Charpara area on a CNG autorickshaw from a party event at Zinodpur union when a group of assailants intercepted her autorickshaw and attacked her around 10pm. They hacked at her indiscriminately, causing her severe injuries. She died on her way to Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex. Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police Md Iqbal Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune that additional police forces had been deployed in the area.
