Brahmanbaria police have opened a digital help desk through embedding a chat robot with Facebook Messenger.
One needs to send messages to the Facebook page named “SP Brahmanbaria” on the Messanger app, and automatic responses will pop up on the chat box immediately, guiding the netizen through a number of sliding tabs indicating different services and phone numbers.
The correspondence will be run by a computer programmed chat robot on behalf of Brahmanbaria's superintendent of police (SP), named Police Bot, on the other end.
A team of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) students hailing from Brahmanbaria helped the district police to launch the help desk.
Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Md Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the programme at Brahmanbaria SP's office on Tuesday.
Addressing the programme, SP Mizanur Rahman said this is the first time such a technology was being incorporated with the “SP Brahmanbaria” Facebook page.
“This link will enable common people to learn about police services and inform us about any type of crime right away. Now it is running on an experimental basis. It will be considered later if it can be activated for the entire Bangladesh Police force,” he said.
