Conjoined twins admitted to DMCH

Rabia and Rukia, 16-month-old conjoined twins from Chatmohor, Pabna, who share the same brain, were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s (DMCH) Burn Unit on Monday morning. The twins, who have separate bodies, are under the supervision of Prof Ruhul Amin, chairman of the pediatric surgery department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Assistant school teacher Mohammed Rafiqul Islam, the father of the twins, told the Dhaka Tribune that the infants were receiving regular check-ups at BSMMU, but were moved after local MP Mokbul Hossain managed to get them into DMCH for treatment. “My wife and I have been traveling to Dhaka for the children's treatment. We want our daughters to have a normal life. We are happy our local MP came forward to help us,” said Rafiqul. National Coordinator of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of DMCH Dr Samanta Lal Sen said: “We admitted the twins on the order of Prime Minister.” “This will be a difficult surgery. We will know more in a few days and then form a medical board, along with a neurosurgeon, a plastic surgeon, a pediatric surgeon and decide what to do,” Sen said.
