The commuters of Dhaka and Chittagong will be able to travel between the two cities within two and a half hours when the advanced bullet train service becomes operational.
“The Dhaka to Chittagong [via Comilla, Laksham] bullet train service will be launched, and we are conducting feasibility study following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s order,” the minister said during an event organised by Taxes Zone Comilla on Wednesday.

Earlier, the government gave green light to the new high-speed rail link between Dhaka and Chittagong which should cut journey times between the country’s largest two cities by 2022.
The existing Dhaka-Chittagong rail link runs 320km through Tongi, Bhairab, Akhaura, Comilla and Feni, with journey times ranging from 7 to 10 hours.
The high-speed train, however, will run on a special track to be laid through Narayanganj, Comilla, Laksham and Feni, cutting the travel distance by over a third to 200km.
