A computer lab in a remote village of Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram has won the Microsoft-Young Bangla Startup Award this year.
Established in August last year with the assistance of Microsoft Bangladesh, the computer lab of Ashar Alo Pathshala in Nakharganj village was awarded in recognition of its contribution to the inclusion of children and women in IT activities.
Prime Minister's ICT Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy handed over the Tk500,000 award to Kumar Bishwajit Barman, founder of the lab, at Sheikh Hasina National Youth Centre, Savar, on October 21.

Kumar Bishwaji, who is also a winner of Joy Bangla Youth Award 2015, told the Dhaka Tribune that the award was indeed an achievement for the entire Kurigram district. The spirited youth said it is his dream to make the union (Ramkhana) a technologically advanced one in the near future.
Microsoft Bangladesh has so far provided a set of equipment consisting of five computers, one projector, one printer, one modem and one router to to eight selected youth-led organisations, for the establishment of computer labs in their respective areas.
