Suspected drug peddler killed in Chittagong ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler has been killed in a “gunfight” with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Barisal Colony in Chittagong city. The incident took place early Friday. The deceased is Mohammad Faruk, 42, a top drug peddler of the port city. Mimtanur Rahman, senior Assistant Director (media) of RAB 7, said a RAB team conducted a drive at Barisal Colony to recover drugs around 3am. Sensing their presence, drug peddlers opened fire on the elite force members, forcing them to retaliate, triggering the “gunfight”. During the “gunfight”, Faruk was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. The elite force recovered three pistols and 200,000 pieces of yaba pills from the scene. Faruk's body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
