Quader: Yaba, weapons entering Bangladesh with Rohingya

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said illegal yaba and weapons are entering Bangladesh, along with the influx of thousands of fleeing Rohingya from Myanmar.

The minister, also the general secretary of the ruling party, made the comment while distributing aid at the Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya on Thursday.

“Rohingya people are pouring in from Myanmar, and along with these refugees, Yaba and weapons are also entering Bangladesh. We call upon the UN to help us send back the Rohingya to their own country, by creating international pressure on Myanmar. We are barely supporting the refugees in Bangladesh soil,” Obaidul Quader said.

“The UN did not keep its promise, and the situation in Bangladesh is becoming similar to the Bosnian refugee crisis. Either send them [Rohingya] back to Myanmar, or relocate them to another country.”

Earlier in the day, Obaidul Quader laid the foundation stone of a new building called “Sarak Bhaban” in Cox’s Bazar.

Awami League Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, lawmaker Ashek Ullah Rafiq, Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Md Ali Hossain and Superintendent of Police Dr AKM Iqbal Hossain attended the programme among others.
