Rohingya family of 9 members held in Jessore

Police have detained a Rohingya family of nine members at Monihar Bus Station in Jessore on Wednesday evening.
The members of the Rohingya family are – Tafur Alam, 40, his wife Murshida Begum, 30, their daughters Yasmin Akter, 9, Tasnim Akter, 5, sons Riazul Islam, 7, Syful Islam, 3, nine-month old Sahidul Islam, niece Jahanara, 20, and her nine-month old son Nahid Hasan.
The family hails from Panigaji area of Rakhine state in Myanmar.
Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said a police patrol team detained them, while the family was passing through the station in a bus.
Upon initial investigation, they said they had entered Bangladesh through Bandarban border on foot a few days ago after their houses were torched.
They claimed that they had paid some people for arranging transportation to a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.
The detainees will be sent to Rohingya refugee camp soon, said the OC.
