Muggers kill college student, steal his auto rickshaw

A college student and part-time auto rickshaw driver was murdered in Bogra city by muggers who hired him. The three criminals stabbed Al-Amin, 22, in the legs, toook his vehicle and left him bleeding in Chilimpur in the town on Saturday evening. Later at night pedestrians rescued Al-Amin in critical condition and brought him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where he died from excessive bleeding. Police have recovered the auto rickshaw and arrested Abdul Karim, 28, one of the hijackers from the town’s Malgram area. Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Emdad Hossain and OC (investigation) Aslam Ali said Al-Amin, son of Rafiqul Islam of Damrul village in Nandigram upazila, was a first-year Islamic History honours student at Azizul Haque College. Al-Amin used to live at a mess in Khandar area in the town. In the evenings, he used to drive an auto rickshaw to pay for his tuitions. On Saturday evening around 8pm, Abdul Karim, son of Abdul Kuddus, and two of his associates hired Al-Amin’s auto rickshaw from Malgram area. When going through Shohortoli’s Chilimpur, the hijackers stabbed Al-Amin’s right thigh with sharp weapons and fled the scene with the auto rickshaw. Police went to look for the perpetrators the same night. Based on intelligence, Karim, the leader of the group, was arrested and the auto rickshaw was recovered. During an initial interrogation, Abdul Karim confessed to his crime and gave up the names of his two associates. Ashiq, Al-Amin’s younger brother filed a case at the Sadar police station against Karim and three other people on Sunday at 2pm. The OC said the accused would be produced before the court with a seven-day remand.
