Toxic fumes kill two Bhola men after falling in septic tank

Two construction workers died after being exposed to toxic fumes while cleaning a septic tank in Bhola’s Charfasson upazila. The deceased have been identified as Abbas, 34 and Yusuf, 30. The incident took place on Thursday after the duo entered the septic tank which was located in a house in Kathpotti area. The security guard of the house Motaleb Mallick said the pair opened the septic tank and started draining the stagnant water from the tank. He said: “While they were working I went out for a tea break and was later informed someone is screaming from the septic tank. "I rushed to the scene and saw two bodies were floating inside the tank. "Later, Charfasson fire service officials reached the scene and took them to the Charfasson Upazila Health Complex, where they were declared dead," he added. Charfasson Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Md Siraj Uddin said Abbas and Yusuf died before reaching the hospital. "I am assuming the duo died from suffocation after inhaling poisonous gases in the septic tank," he said. Charfasson police station Officer-in-Charge Md Enamul Haque said as no complaint has been filed regarding the issue the police handed over the bodies to the families.
