‘Condition of Rohingya refugees disheartening’

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has said, the condition of Rohingya refugees at camps in Cox’s Bazar ‘brings tears to his eyes’.
He was visiting the Kutupalang and Balukhali refugee camps in Ukhiya upazila on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking about the ongoing humanitarian crisis, Ershad said: “After seeing them (Rohingya refugees) with my own eyes, I firmly believe that they are truly helpless. They lack even the basic human rights, such as food and shelter.”
HM Ershad arrived at Cox’s Bazar at 11:45am on Thursday, with a 25-member delegation of central leaders. The delegation was comprised of senior party leaders, including Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, and presidium members Zia Uddin Ahmed Bablu and Major Khaled and lawmaker Yahiya Chowdhury.
“The Myanmar army crackdown against the Rohingya people can be considered as genocide, and the country must immediately halt oppressing of the minority group,” he added.
HM Ershad also urged the United Nations for deploying peacekeeping forces in Myanmar, unless the country stops its brutal military campaign against the Rohingyas.
Meeting with the refugees, the JaPa chairman said: “People of Bangladesh are with you (Rohingya refugees), and we will support you untill you can return to your country.”
The Jatiya Party delegation, led by HM Ershad distributed aid to Rohingya refugees in Balukhali and Kutupalang refugee camps.
