Expecting mother at last loses her battle for life

The victim Kamrunnahar Nipu, 20, daughter of Gias Uddin, a resident of Dhanshalik village, died in the morning while undergoing treatment at the burn unit of the hospital, said Dr Farid Uddin Chowdhury, residential medical surgeon of the DMCH burn unit. Anowar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sudharam Model police station, quoting victim’s father said Md Mahsin, son of Delowar Hossain of Purba Shullyakia village under Sadar upazila in the district, tied the knot with Nipu 11 months ago. After a few days of marriage, Mahsin started torturing Nipu over dowry. Locals had tried to solve the issue by negotiating, but all of their efforts could not save Nipu from repression. On Wednesday, Mahsin poured petrol on Nipu’s body in a bid to kill her. Hearing her screams, locals rescued her and sent to Noakhali Medical College Hospital in critical state. She was later shifted to the DMCH burn unit as her condition deteriorated. Gias Uddin filed a case against Mahsin with Sudharam Model police station, said the OC.
