Withdrawal of case against Gobindaganj MP demanded

Bangabandhu Projonmo League demanded withdrawal of the case filed against Gobindaganj MP Prof Abul Kalam Azad filed by a Santal man Swapan Marmu on November 17 after three people of the community were killed during an eviction drive.
The associate body of the ruling party Awami League came up with the demand at a press conference held at Bogra Press Club in the afternoon.
Central Organising Secretary of Bangabandhu Projonmo League Sheikh Shoriful Islam, read out a written statement at the press conference.
The statement stated that the reason of filing the case was mysterious because the plaintiff was not affected during the drive. His whereabouts was also unknown to the local Santal leaders. As the lawmaker was not present during the eviction drive, so the authorities should withdraw the case filed against him.
Earlier, Swapan Marmu, son of Somesh Marmu of Moalipara village in the upazila, filed the case on November 17, accusing 500-600 people, including Gobindaganj MP, said Subrata Kumar Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj police station.
On November 6, Gobindaganj upazila administration evicted around 2,000 families from their ancestral land in Sahebganj-Bagda Sugar Mill area.
