Two honours students have been sentenced to 19 days' non-rigorous imprisonment each for harassing a female passenger on a train in Rajshahi.
Rajshahi district administration Executive Magistrate Samar Kumar Paul passed the order around 10:30am on Saturday at Rajshahi railway station.
The convicts are Asif Iqbal, 26, a private university student from Rajshahi town, and Mominul Islam, 21, a student of a local college from the district's Charghat upazila.
The victim, a resident of Shiroil area adjoining the station, said she was heading home from Dhaka for Eid holidays on the Padma Express.
The two students were travelling in the same compartment of the train that had left Dhaka at 11pm on Friday, she said.
On their way to Rajshahi, the two youths harassed the woman in many ways, which she informed her relatives about by phone, leading to the action taken by the executive magistrate in a mobile court.
Rajshahi Government Railway Police Officer-in-Charge Akbar Ali, confirming the matter, said the two stalkers were sent to Rajshahi Central Jail.
