SC orders submission of Nizami appeal by Mar 31

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has ordered both the prosecution and defence to submit the summary of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami’s appeal by March 31.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order Tuesday morning.

In its order, the court said if any of the parties failed to submit the summary within the stipulated time, it would begin the hearing without the summary.

On October 29, 2014, Nizami was sentenced to death for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

On November 23, the defence lawyers appealed in the apex court challenging the verdict.
