HC: Do not arrest, harass Mintoo

The High Court has directed law enforcers to refrain from arresting or harassing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advisor Abdul Awal Mintoo in a case filed for attempt to murder MP Chhabi Biswas.

The HC bench of Justice Mohammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Md Bodiuzzaman passed the order on Sunday afternoon.

Mintoo’s lawyer Advocate Ehsanur Rahman said Assistant Attorney General Aminur Rahman pleaded for time for hearing on Mintoo’s bail petition filed by lawyer Joinul Abedin in the morning.

“Attorney General Mahbubey Alam will hear the bail petition. But the defence lawyer expressed apprehension that his client might be arrested in the meantime,” Ehsanur Rahman quoted AAG Aminur Rahman.

He said then the court issued a verbal order directing the law enforcers not to arrest or harass Mintoo until the hearing is held.

Abdul Awal Mintoo has been made accused in a case filed with Shahbagh police station for attempt to murder Awami League MP Chhabi Biswas.

On December 24, BNP leaders and activists clashed with Chhatra League activists near Bakshibazar makeshift court ahead of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance in the court in two graft cases. At least 30 people including a MP Chhabi Biswas were injured in the clash.

Miscreants also torched a parked private car of Chhobi Bishwas MP during the clash.
