The government is set to publish a list of martyred intellectuals for the first time by June 30 this year, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque told the parliament yesterday.
Replying to a question from Awami League MP Abdul Latif (Chittagong 11), the minister said the government had been working to prepare the list of intellectuals who had been abducted and killed just before the country’s independence on December 16, 1971.
Since 1972, Bangladesh observes December 14 as the Martyred Intellectuals Day since the anti-liberation forces killed many intellectuals to cripple the new nation on that day. However, the government does not have a list of the victims.
Mozammel said the government had also been working to prepare the true history of the War of Independence.
