The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday upheld its previous stay order on the High Court bail granted to the son of a former HC judge.
The four-member bench headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain passed the order yesterday.
On September 24, former HC Judge Abdus Salam Mamun’s 26-year-old son Asif Adnan Shuvo and a senior bureaucrat’s son, Fazle Elahi Tanzil, were arrested from their residences in the capital.
Asif was allegedly recruited as an Islamic State fighter by a UK citizen of Bangladeshi origin. The duo confessed during interrogation that they were planning to go to Syria through with the UK citizen’s help posing as members of Tabligh Jamaat, a peaceful movement for spreading Islamic values.
