Mir Quasem repeats the V-sign

War criminal Mir Quasem Ali has emerged with a victory sign following the verdict in his crimes against humanity case.

Quasem, who was awarded death penalty by International Crimes Tribunal Sunday morning, showed the V-sign while he was being taken to the central jail from the crimes tribunal. He followed the notorious gesture by another war criminal Abdul Quader Molla who was awarded life sentence in 2013.

Mir Quasem, member of Jamaat central execeutive committee, was taken back to central jail after the verdict on Sunday, Dhaka Tribune photojournalist Rajib Dhar reports.

Rajib, who was at the tribunal premise, said: “While entering the prison van, the war criminal used his index and middle fingers on his right hands to make the V-sign.”

The sign is generally shown when someone wins something.

Earlier on February 5, 2013, another war criminal and top Jamaat-e-Islami leader Quader Molla showed the V-sign after the verdict in his crimes angianst humanity case. The gesture by the Jamaat leadder triggered a mass uprising in Bangladesh that apparently forced the governement to ammend the Internatinal Crimes Tribunal Act (1974). The ammendemnet cleared the way for the state to appeal in the war crimes cases.

The International Crimes Tribunal 2 awarded death penalty to Mir Quasem Ali, known as a key financier of the anti-liberation party, for his alleged crimes against humanity and other offenses committed in Chittagong during the 1971 Liberation War.
