Defence to appeal against Quasem verdict

Terming the verdict as a farcical one, the defence lawyers said they would file an appeal petition challenging the tribunal verdict against Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali.

His lawyer Mizanul Islam said this on Sunday afternoon, while expressing reaction over the verdict that handed down death penalty to the war criminal.

Mizanul said: “We will filed appeal petition challenging the farcical verdict. Justice has been denied by pronouncing the verdict.”

“The prosecution could not present any documents which could prove the charges against Quasem. But we tabled many documents that could prove that the Jamaat leader was not involved with any crimes during the war.”

“He was even outside of Chittagong during the war.” he claimed.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali has been sentenced to death for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

The tribunal 2 has handed down death penalty to war criminal Mir Kashem on the charges 11 and 12 for killing seven people, including one Jasimuddin, after abduction.
