Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in the capital on Saturday evening, ahead of dawn to dusk countrywide shutdown called by the Islamic parties for Sunday.
Mohosin Reza, public relations officer of BGB headquarters, endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “BGB personnel have been deployed at 7pm and will vigil in the capital to avert any untoward situation ahead of Sunday’s shutdown.”
Sources at BGB headquarters said 10 platoons of BGB members had already begun patrolling the city streets in association with the members of other law enforcement agencies.
Sammilito Islami Dal, a coalition of Islamic parties, has called a countrywide dawn to dusk hartal for Sunday, demanding maximum punishment for Abdul Latif Siddique for his disparaging remarks about hajj and Tablig Jamaat.
