A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a lawyer to five days in jail for misbehaving with a judge over the verdict in a cheque dishonour case.
Judge Nurun Nahar Shiuli of the First Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court in Dhaka convicted Saiful Islam Helal, also an additional public prosecutor of the Dhaka’s Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court. In default, the court fined him Tk200.
Court sources said Judge Nurun Nahar on Wednesday sentenced an accused named Jahid Hossain Babu to eight months' imprisonment and fined him Tk5 lakh in the cheque dishonour case.
Saiful, a special public prosecutor, was also the counsel for Babu.
He got annoyed after the judge delivered the verdict in the case. Later, he along with three other lawyers went to personal chamber of the judge yesterday morning without taking her permission and misbehaved with her.
The court awarded punishment to Saiful, but later set aside the punishment as the lawyer made an apology.
