A woman allegedly hacked her husband to death in the capital on Wednesday after she came to know about his second marriage.
Yesterday police arrested Laboni Akhter, 25, for murdering her husband Salahuddin, 45, from their residence in Kalyanpur area.
The couple have two children, said Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge Salauddin Ahmed.
He said on Wednesday night, the couple engaged in an altercation centring the second marriage of Salahuddin. At one stage, Laboni hacked her husband with a chopper and hid the body inside a wardrobe in the house.
In the morning she called up police to recover the body, he said.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashed Talukder placed Laboni on a two-day remand yesterday.
“No mark of blood was found inside the house, the children do not know anything about the killing,” said the OC.
Salahuddin’s cousin Murad told the Dhaka Tribune: “We did not know about Salahuddin’s second marriage. Now we have come to know that the second wife lives in the same area and has a three-month-old daughter with Salahuddin.”
Mirpur police station Sub-Inspector and Investigation Officer of the case Rafiqul Islam said: “Upon primary investigation we assume that the woman is not behind the killing alone, her parents might have also been involved. The children are currently staying with their mother under police custody.”
Salahuddin had married again six years before about which Laboni came to know five days before the killing, said the SI.
