A Chittagong court yesterday issued show-cause notice to the OC and an SI of the Kotwali police station in connection with the recovery of Tk57.92 lakh from the Chittagong court building.
Metropolitan Magistrate Faridul Alam issued the notice to OC AKM Mohiuddin Selim and SI Mohammad Kamruzzaman.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Nirmalendu Bikash Chakrabarty said the court had passed the order around 5:45pm after hearing on remand for the arrestee.
Earlier, police produced Md Elias, 32, a resident of Kashba of Brahmanbaria, arrested with Tk57.92 lakh from the Annex Building of the Chittagong court on October 14, before the court and sought a five-day remand. He was caught for his suspicious movement while entering the court building.
Sources said Elias might have brought the money to bribe a local government official. The district administration on Wednesday formed a one-member probe committee to look into the matter. Soon after the incident, 12 district administration staff were transferred.
