The high-powered government probe body on Narayanganj seven murders has decided to question RAB chief Mokhlesur Rahman and some other top officials for their alleged involvement in the sensational killings.
Mokhlesur might be quizzed next week. The date would be finalised by Sunday during a meeting of the probe body, its chief Shahjahan Ali Mollah, also additional secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
He said they would also take statements of some high officials whose name came in confessional statements of the accused during police interrogation. Mollah denied disclosing the names.
Regarding submission of their probe report to the High Court, Mollah said: “We are trying to submit the report within the fixed date [October 2]. But, it may take some time more to finalise the report as the offices will remain off due to Eid and Durga Puja.”
A member of the body said they would submit to the court a progress report on the investigation on October 2 and seek more time.
The seven-member probe body has already quizzed Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, Awami League MP Shamim Osman, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Zillar Rahman, Dhaka Range DIG of Police Mahfuzul Haq Nuruzzaman and Additional Director General of RAB Ziaul Ahsan and some other influential persons.
The team members earlier intended to quiz the key suspect, Nur Hossain, in Kolkata. But the plan was shelved after the government had moved strongly to bring him back.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, three of his aides and driver, and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver were kidnapped from the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road. Three days later, six bodies were found floating in the River Shitalakkhya. The seventh body was recovered from the river the next day.
