BB seeks bank account info of 13 people

The Bangladesh Bank has asked for information about the bank accounts of 13 people including the sons of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad.

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) under the central bank sent a letter in this regard to different commercial banks on Thursday.

BFIU may have sought the information following complaints against the account or request from any of the government agencies, said a senior executive of the central bank.

The letter asked the banks concerned to send the required information to the central bank within seven working days. Among those 13 are Ershad’s son Rahgir Al Mahi Saad and Khaleda’s son Arafat Rahman Coco.

BFIU also sought information on the bank accoutns of of Shajedul Haque Chowdhury alias Dipu Chowdhury, son of Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofajjol Hossain Chowdhury Maya, MP Haji Selim, Jubo League President Ismail Chowdhury Samrat and MP Nizam Uddin Hazari.

The 13 men also include Former Environment Minister Shahjahan Siraj, his son Rajib Siraj, former MP Naser Rahman.
