BNP-Jamaat lawyers yesterday staged black-flag demonstrations at all bar associations across the country protesting the 16th amendment to the constitution that empowered the parliament to remove the Supreme Court judges.
The demonstrations were observed as per the decision taken by the Bangladesh Bar Council.
The lawyers are also set to boycott the courts across the country today demanding the cancellation of the amendment to the constitution.
AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, member of the bar council, yesterday told reporters he got information through phone calls that the lawyers staged demonstrations and held rallies spontaneously at all 81 bar associations across the country.
Yesterday, a group of pro-BNP-Jamaat lawyers brought out a procession with a black flag and held a meeting on the SCBA premises.
Following the programme, Vice-Chairman Khandker Mahbub Hossain of the bar council told a
press conference the judiciary will go under the control of the present government.
The judges will not be able to functions independently as they will remain under political pressure.
He urged all lawyers to boycott the courts across the country today as per the bar council’s resolution.
