The experts’ opinion will be taken during preparation of the draft of Judges’ Impeachment Act, Law Minister Anisul Haq has said.
The minister made the statement while talking to reporters after joining a national conference on legal aid services at a hotel in the capital on Saturday.
“It is not necessary to discuss with the experts for preparing the draft of amending the constitution. It will be needed during preparation of the draft of the Judges’ Impeachment Act,” Anisul said.
“The opinions of the experts, lawyers and civil society personnel will be taken during that time.”
Anisul said: “Judiciary is not for any individual section. It's for all. Everyone has the right of getting justice. It's also the right of the poor people to get aid from the state. Providing aid for the people is also the responsibility of the state.”
Terming ensuring of standard legal service as a challenge, the minister said special training programmes have been taken to ensure providing the standard legal services. The fees of panel lawyers were increased and reward for the panel lawyers were started to motivate the lawyers.
“The initiative of using the district legal aid offices as an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) center was also taken to get rid of the cluttering of cases. Some of the non-government organisations (NGO) are also providing legal assistance for the poor along with the government,” he added.
DFID's Senior Governance Adviser Richard Butterworth, Community Legal Services Project's Team Leader Hector Diaz Soliman, Law and Justice Division Secretary Abu Saleh Sk Md Zahirul Haque and Project Director of National Legal Aid Services Organization Syed Aminul Islam also discussed during the conference.
The National Legal Aid Services Organization, Bangladesh and Community Legal Service jointly organised the national conference.
