A Dhaka court has ordered Sher-e-Banglanagar police station to accept the complaint petition as First Information Report (FIR) against six television presenters, including a Jamaat-e-Islami central leader.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asadduzaman Nur passed the order on Thursday after filing the complaint by Imran Hussain Tushar, general secretary of Islami Chhatra Sena.
The accused are Tarek Monowar, presenter of Islamic programmes in ATN Bangla and NTV and also Jamaat's central Rokon, Kamal Uddin, presenter of Islamic programmes in ATN Bangla and NTV and also Jamaat's former Ameer of Narshingdi, Kazi Ibrahim, presenter of Islamic programmes in Diganta Television and Peace TV, Arfan Ullah, director of Islamic programmes in ATN Bangla, Khaled Saidullah Bokshi, presenter of Islamic programmes in RTV and Radio Today, and Mukhtar Ahmad, presenter of Quran er Alo in Bangla Vision.
According to the petition, the accused used to give death threats to Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqi and use abusive words against him because he used to talk about the Islamic teachings in his programme “Kafela” on Channel i.
On August 27, unidentified armed assailants slaughtered Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqi, a presenter of religious programmes on Channel i, at his own residence in the capital's Purba Rajabazar area.
