Pinak 6 owner’s son held in capital

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Omar Faruq Limon, son of the owner of ill-fated Pinak-6 from one of his relatives’ house at Khilkhet in the capital in the wee hours of yesterday.

Limon, who was the third accused in the launch capsize case, was arrested by a team of Rab-1 at around 3:30am, Rab’s Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan, adding: “We have already sent him to Munshiganj police who have been investigating the case.”

His father Abu Bakar Siddique, who owned Pinak 6, was arrested from a house at Agrabad Housing Area in Chittagong city on Wednesday.

Earlier on August 4, Pinak 6 sank in the Padma river, 800 yards off Mawa pier, claiming over 100 lives of around 200 passengers on its board on August 4.

Transport Inspector of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Jahangir Bhuiyan filed a case with Louhajang police station against six persons, including Faruq and his father, in connection with the launch capsize.

Until yesterday, the bodies of 48 passengers had been recovered while 62 others are still missing.

Rescuers left Mawa on Monday suspending their search for the bodies of the passengers in the launch capsize.

Munshiganj district administration however said they were still continuing their search for the rest of the passengers missing in the launch capsize.
