SC: Evict Gazzali Institute from Suchitra's house

The Supreme Court has directed the administration to evict Imam Gazzali Institute from the ancestral house of the legendary actress Suchitra Sen.

The apex court also ordered for establishing Suchitra Sen Smrity Sangrohoshala without any delay by evicting the institution.

The three member Appellate Division bench headed by Justice SK Sinha ordered the judgment on Thursday afternoon.

The full verdict has been ruled today, said SC lawyer Manzil Morshed.

The court also reprimanded the Imam Gazzali Institute lawyer for violating his promise to shift the institute from Suchitra Sen’s birthplace.

Earlier, the lawyer promised to the Appellate Division that he would shift the institute within two months. But he did not keep his promise.

The residence of the legendary actress has been occupied by the Imam Gazzali Institute over decades, although the people of the district have been demanding measures to free the historic house from the grabber's occupation.

The High Court on August 18, 2011 ordered the authorities concerned to vacate the home from illegal occupation within two months of the order.
