The plaintiff in the case filed for killing Special Branch police officer Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife yesterday said the couple’s daughter Oishee Rahman was not involved in the murders.
Oishee could not have murdered her parents, Moshiur Rahman Rubel, her uncle who filed the case, told the court during his deposition yesterday.
“I believe that my niece did not kill her parents. My brother investigated many cases, including political ones. Some miscreants might have killed the couple over previous animosity,” he told Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jahrul Haque.
“As my brother used to deal with political cases, he might have been the victim of conspiracy.”
After his deposition the defence counsel cross-examined the witness.
The court fixed August 11 for the cross-examination of Oishee’s friends Mizanur Rahman Rony and Mahfuzur Rahman Jony.
Oishee and her friends Rony and Jony were present in the court during the deposition.
On May 6, the court framed charges against Oishee and her two friends.
On March 9, Abu Al Khair Matubbar, Detective Branch inspector who was investigating the case, submitted two charge sheets – one against Oishee and her friends, and another against housemaid Sumi, 15 – to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
The bodies of SB officer Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife were recovered from their rented residence at Chamelibagh in the capital on August 16 last year. The couple lived there with their two children Oishee and Oihee along with their domestic help Sumi.
Twenty-two hours after the incident, Oishee turned up at Paltan police station. The same day, detectives also arrested Rony, Jony and domestic help Sumi.
Oishee, Jony and Rony are now in jail while domestic help Sumi is on bail.
On August 24 last year, Oishee and Sumi gave confessional statements before a magistrate.
Mahfuz’s brother Moshiur Rahman filed the murder case with Paltan police station against some unnamed people.
